He started his career writing code and cryptographic systems for organizations such as NASA, the US Department of Defense, Disney, and other Fortune 500s. He is the founder and CEO of BrightRay Publishing, a company that offers writing and publishing services for founders, CEOs, celebrities, sports figures, politicians, and other professionals. Scott has co-written two books, Stop Getting Fu*ked by Technical Recruiters: A Nerd’s Guide to Negotiating Salary and Benefits which reached Amazon’s Top 10 rank for its category, and How to Build Your Brand with a Book: Establishing Yourself as a Published Expert. Scott was named after Scott Carpenter, the fourth American in space. His father, Arthur Turman, had worked with Scott Carpenter on Mercury-Atlas 7 at NASA. Scott is married to the Belgian architect Birgit Turman. He lives with his wife and son in Maitland, Florida.

In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Jim Rowe. Jim , a marketing veteran of 45 years, started in market research after receiving his BS in Marketing from Fairfield University, CT. Jim has held client and agency positions including: Brand Manager, Coke; VP Marketing, Cutty Shark; President of Promotion and InterMark Divisions, Saatchi Howard Marlboro Group; plus 30+ years as an owner of Manhattan Marketing Ensemble then Jim Rowe Marketing.
Jim saw weak problem solving & communication skills among recent grads. He wasn’t alone. In a PayScale study, 60% of managers say grads lack problem solving skills. 40% say they can’t write. Yet, 80% of grads say they’re proficient in both. A “skills gap.” A Gallup / Inside Higher Ed study shows 96% of Chief Academic Officers say their college was effective at preparing students for work. Only 33% of managers agreed. A bigger “skills gap.” Cost to companies is lower productivity and required remedial training. Therefore, Jim wrote Get Your Ducks In A Rowe. Avoiding a traditional business ‘writing’ book, and inspired by Who Moved My Cheese, Jim wrote a fable that’s easy to Read, Retain, and Replicate to solve problems and generate Results. Book 1, Business Writing & Communication teaches the 10-step formula to Think, Write, Present and Sell more effectively. Book 2, Learn The A-D-A-P-T-E-R Method of Strategic Business Communication (4/22), teaches the holistic approach to critical thinking, communication and execution. In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Stephen Somers. Stephen started out working in the Mental Health Commission in Dublin, Ireland - a low-paying government job. He knew that he wanted more from life and spent most of his days Googling "how to make money online". In doing so, he encountered just about every money-making scam on the internet!
After discovering a friend of his Aunt’s was running an online eCommerce business, Stephen immediately traveled to the other end of the country to be introduced to him. Several weeks after meeting Robert, Stephen took his own very minimal savings, quit his job, packed his bags, and went to work in a freezing cold warehouse to learn the ropes!
From that moment on, he was hooked, and together they went to work on growing and streamlining Robert’s business. Together they expanded globally into multiple markets and became more effective and efficient sellers. Within three short years, Stephen and Robert (who are still business partners to this day) had built a 7 figure global Amazon business.
They noticed not many people were teaching how to sell anything other than "hot products" on Amazon which are way too competitive and tricky to win with. Driven by a desire to share their knowledge and help others, they set out to teach people a better, more scalable, and sustainable way to build an Amazon business to the 7 figure level.
Taking their approach of selling low-competition, high-profit, “boring” products, they created an online training program. From this program, they have built a global freight company, an entire software suite, and multiple 7 figure service-based companies that are built to serve one purpose - helping their members build and scale their business as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Each of these businesses is based on one simple premise - the success of their clients. Now expanding beyond the eCommerce industry, Stephen and Robert are helping other online business owners and entrepreneurs become disruptive industry leaders and dominate their markets. In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Darby Vannier. Darby has over 20 years of experience in leadership development and strategic consulting. He has led effective teams of more than a 100 employees, coached others into their own leadership positions, and created stability during challenging organizational transitions. His career has been built on the philosophy that developing the right people is the key to success.
Darby started his career as an HR and operations manager for a 22-screen AMC movie theater, where he hired, trained, and managed a team of over one hundred employees, and as branch manager of a FedEx Office store, where he coached half of his team into their own leadership positions. These positions readied him to fulfill the role of executive director and CEO of the Alpaca Owners Association, an international livestock association. There, he built the foundational systems, processes, and team in a newly opened corporate office, fostering the company and industry through difficult transitions, including a long-term rebranding program and an organizational merger. Combining the diverse knowledge and experience gained through these positions, he now serves on the leadership team of highly successful leadership development organization, Leadership Resources.
After starting his first venture by mowing lawns in first grade, Darby discovered his passion for business. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nebraska Wesleyan University and later earned his master of business administration from the University of Phoenix.
