Shaahin Cheyene - The Amazon Accelerator

In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Shaahin Cheyene. Shaahin is one of the world's top Amazon consultants, an award winning business mogul, author and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. Shaahin is currently the founder of a brain nutrition startup Accelerated Intelligence where he is positioning the enterprise to be the forerunner in the brain nutrition supplements market.
Shaahin is the quintessential American success story. Born in Tehran, Iran in 1975, his family immigrated to America in 1980, during the tumultuous Islamic Revolution. As a young boy, Shaahin knew he was destined for entrepreneurship. Cheyene’s passion progressed into several booming small businesses, including a bicycle repair service. He read financial magazines voraciously and gleaned inspiration from the works of Dale Carnegie and Napoleon Hill. As a teenager in the 1990’s he jump started his career by inciting and leading the “Smart Drug Movement” with his invention of Herbal Ecstacy, an energizing, herbal supplement designed to stimulate the body. With Herbal Ecstacy, Shaahin founded his first business venture, Global World Media (no longer in operation), a maker of legal intoxicants. He learned early in his career about guerilla branding and he still uses it to sell his products today.
Shaahin has invented over 200 award-­winning products, selling millions of units worldwide. After pioneering the breakthrough formulation for Herbal Ecstacy, he expanded his company’s offerings with Ecstacy Cigarettes, an herbal alternative to tobacco that many have used to quit smoking. It went on to become the most successful herbal cigarette in the world. Branded the “Willy Wonka of Generation X” Shaahin has been likened to such divergent entrepreneurs as Bill Gates and P.T. Barnum. In the early 2000’s, Shaahin's career naturally evolved and matured. He began to work with several major pharmaceutical companies to broadcast the technologies and benefits of herbal medicines to the mainstream. In this process Shaahin was responsible for proliferation of several plant medicines now used in popular naturopathic health regimens.
In 2000 Shaahin invented, patented and developed a revolutionary new medicine delivery technology dubbed the Vapir Vaporizer. His invention quickly spearheaded the then burgeoning vaporization industry. He also authored the definitive book on the science of Vaporization, Vapor: The Art and Science of Inhaling Pure Plant Essences. Shaahin prepared Vapir for the public markets but subsequently sold the invention to a private investment group in Silicon Valley in 2006. The Vapir Vaporizer sales are still in the millions worldwide. Shaahin credits the creation of his top selling health supplement Excelerol to his career long love of naturopathic herbal remedies. He remains true to his goals to nurture and help improve the health of the masses with herbal alternatives to harsh chemicals.

In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Ash Cintas. Ash, is the founder of City Shoppe, and an expert on small business trends. She is also a former small business owner with a passion for startups and growing small businesses. Growing up in a diverse entrepreneurial family (microprocessors, fishing, retail, Olympics, and Hot Dog on a Stick), Ashley learned about running a business and creating products early. Spending her weekends counting inventory and exploring trade show floors since the age of 7. While in college at UCLA, she decided to start her first business based on a need for the yoga industry. Soon after graduation, she pursued it full time, managing overseas manufacturing, local sewing, patents, and bringing a new invention to market. She experienced firsthand and grew frustrated with the impact tech giants control over our purchasing and the human, economic, and environmental cost of that control. She is now dedicated to helping small businesses and retail survive with her new venture, City Shoppe, solving two problems that all local SMBs face - for free.

Mike Smerklo - Co-Founder and Managing Director of Next Coast Ventures

    In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Mike Smerklo. Mike is an experienced entrepreneur, investor and business leader driven by the desire to turn ideas into reality. His new book, Mr. Monkey and Me (Scribe Media, Nov. 17, 2020), is a “real talk” guide for entrepreneurs who want to cut through the noise to cultivate a mindset that supports greatness.
     Mike grew up in a blue-collar family outside of Toledo, Ohio, with dreams of achieving something more with his life. After working his way through college to earn an accounting degree and moving to Chicago to launch his CPA career, he eventually talked his way into a junior analyst gig with the Wall Street investment bank Lehman Brothers. While he hated the job, surviving two years of hellish 100-hour workweeks and countless spreadsheets (so many spreadsheets) gave Mike a solid understanding of finance and company building. He went on to earn an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and experienced the Silicon Valley dot-com boom as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley.
   Mike was recruited by legendary entrepreneurs Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz as one of the first employees of their new startup, Loudcloud. Here, he learned from the very best about what it takes to grow a company from an idea through an initial public offering. Mike began his own entrepreneurship journey in 2003, purchasing ServiceSource, a 30-person technology services startup in San Francisco. As CEO over the next 12 years, he grew the business into a successful 3,000-person publicly traded company with close to $300M in revenue.
     In Mr. Monkey and Me, Mike draws on his broad range of experiences and mistakes as an entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Using lessons he learned from renowned entrepreneurs, he developed the SHAPE formula -- Self, Help, Authenticity, Persistence and Expectations -- which gives readers an actionable approach to mental toughness that will help any entrepreneur start, grow and run a successful business.
